Grand Re-Opening of the Harrogate Dining Room

After 24 years of serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Harrogate Dining Room has been remodeled! Throughout the past, anyone who has had the pleasure of a dining experience at Harrogate has not only commented on the finest cuisine, prepared by our Executive Chef Joe Alonzo; but also on the beauty of their surroundings. However, in preparation of our “Silver Anniversary”, it was time for some enhancements.

It took merely two weeks for our “extreme makeover” and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome. So much was accomplished — with the most beautiful of millwork, built by master craftsmen, complemented by the most elegant of new lighting; custom made draperies, furniture, carpeting and carefully planned colors.

During this time, the services never skipped a beat with our creative Dining Services Staff. Our Auditorium was transformed into a temporary dining venue and every day the Residents were treated to another themed dining experience. One day, there was even a luau, pig roast and all! Chef Joe started the process on the terrace at 4:00 am and the menu was scrumptious.

Once again, Harrogate has outdone itself with fine dining at its best for our Residents to enjoy each and every day.

The Girl Scouts are 100 Years Young!

The Harrogate family was thrilled to participate in a special 100th birthday celebration for the Girl Scouts of America. Former Girl Scouts, Leaders and the husbands and fathers of Girl Scouts and their leaders joined in the party by donning their favorite Girl Scout cookie costume and started the Harrogate Green Hat Society in honor of this wonderful organization. Fortunately, the headquarters for the Ocean County office of the Girl Scouts is very close by… because the cookie sale was so overwhelming, the supply had to be replenished twice!

The Easter Bunny Hops into Harrogate

The Easter Bunny made a special trip to Harrogate for breakfast with the children and grandchildren of our family. Our furry friend also spent time with the residents… including Jean S. who was delighted when she got a surprise visit to her apartment home, and Marian H. — one of the “Pioneers” of Harrogate. Marian was among the first to move into her new home nearly 24 years ago!

This reception, held annually, honors employees that have achieved five, ten, fifteen and twenty years of service with Harrogate.

We are extremely proud of the many years of employment our staff maintains here at Harrogate. In this day and age, and specifically in this industry, dedication to one organization over a period of years and years is scarce. Springtime Family Fun

The grounds at Harrogate are waking up from our mild winter. The beautiful weather brings family members to come and “play” outside in our sports area. Resident Lee G. entertained her great-grandson, Liam, on the croquet court as the temperatures soared to record highs for this time of year. Who could ask for more to entertain the family… croquet, boccie, shuffleboard, putting green, walking trails over 47 acres and our heated pool. A great playground for young and old alike!

As they say, everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s Day. Harrogate is certainly no different. Our Clark Auditorium was as festive as could be. Everyone was invited to tap their toes, dance and sing-along with the Piper’s Alley Band as they played familiar Irish melodies.

This is Jeopardy! Seniors versus Seniors….

Shawn Michaels and Sue Moll from WOBM, 92.7 FM Radio, were the emcees of Harrogate’s first Jeopardy tournament. Six senior students from three local high schools played first each other and then the winning school team played against the “Hot Shots” of Harrogate — our very own group of “Seniors.” The schools participating were Brick Memorial High School, Brick High School and Toms River North High School. The teams played for a $500 Scholarship Award. Also, donations were taken at the door and proceeds of over $500 were divided among the teams participating.

Shawn was “Alex” and Sue was “Trebek”, while Larry Krompier, Executive Director of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, served as the Judge. The audience was filled with supporters for each team and it was an incredibly fun and entertaining afternoon.

Deborah Hospital Prevention of Heart Disease Seminar

Kathleen Zazzali D.O. , of the Deborah Heart and Lung Association, presented an educational seminar to the Harrogate family and friends. This program covered all aspects of the causes and prevention thereof of Heart Disease and was very well attended.

Topics that were covered:

the benefits of a proper diet
preventative measures for heart disease
tips on controlling high blood pressure
information on Deborah Heart & Lung Center.

Following the talk by Dr. Zazzali, our wonderful Dining Services Team provided a beautiful display of heart healthy refreshments, including:

Acai Berry & Pomegranate Juice & Herbal Iced Tea

Grilled Salmon Salad (health slaw with broccoli, carrots, red bell peppers) on baby spinach with black beans & walnuts

Fresh Berry Medley & Yogurt Parfaits (blueberry, strawberry, raspberries) with sprinkled flax seed and almond granola

Oatmeal & Raisin Cookies

Then there was a drawing for the informative book, “Heart 411: The Only Guide To Heart Health You’ll Ever Need.” Long time Harrogate Resident, Dorothy H. was the happy winner! The Harrogate Staff also purchased a copy of the book as a gift to the Harrogate Library.

Music and Dancing for our Valentines

The celebration goes on with live music from the Piper’s Alley Band on our stage and couples on our dance floor. Everyone was invited for a delightful afternoon of music and fun. There were light refreshments and our own Harrogate wine and punch available to all.

Valentine’s Day in our Dining Room

Every day is special at Harrogate, and Valentine’s Day always has an extraordinary touch. Our beautiful dining room was not only adorned in red and white linens and sparkling hearts, but the staff and residents shared in the enthusiasm all dressed in their best in red!

Besides our standard, every day menu, each place setting had a Valentine which opened to a very special menu. Now, doesn’t this just make your mouth water?
